The challenge

A test that rewards those who think like a lawyer

The Bocconi Law Test is challenging: it doesn't ask you to memorise content but to think and apply advanced problem-solving. Argumentation, reasoning by elimination, critical reading — these are skills built only through practice. Our job is to give structure to that practice.

Anna Elsa Paccagnella — Co-Founder, Up to Ten

Anna Elsa Paccagnella

Co-Founder, Head of Education and Business Development

50 questions, 75 minutes, a penalty for every error. The Bocconi Law Test doesn't measure what you know: it measures how you reason — argumentation, critical reading, fast decisions.

The Logic and Critical Thinking section is 36% of the test (18 questions out of 50): it's where you win or lose. It's trained only with structured practice and recognition of argumentative structures.

Our tutors train the double-penalty strategy — when to answer, when to skip. A bad decision on 5 questions can cost you the place. We build it through timed simulations on our Admission Platform.

You need the points that secure your place at Law or Global Law: with up to 4 attempts, we build the strategy across sessions.

The path

Three phases towards admission Bocconi Law

The tutor builds the path and adapts it on the data the platform generates after every simulation.

01

Foundation

A full diagnostic simulation: 50 questions in 75 minutes, real scoring system (+1 / −0.2 / −0.33). Analysis on each of the 5 areas — logic, critical thinking, comprehension, verbal reasoning, numerical reasoning. The tutor identifies not only where you lose points, but why: comprehension errors on argumentative texts, slowness on inference, risky choices around penalties. From there the personalised plan starts, calibrated to the session (Early, Winter or Spring) and to the target course (Law or Global Law). Full report on Up to Connect, visible to you and your family.

02

Development

Consolidation on the 3 non-quantitative areas of the test. Logic and critical thinking (36% of the score): argument analysis, recognising implicit assumptions, distinguishing true / false / not deducible. Reading comprehension: dense humanities passages, identifying thesis and arguments, inference. Verbal reasoning: deductions from premises, spotting logical errors, reasoning by elimination. Guided independent work between lessons — targeted exercises on the week's errors — is where the speed that decides the test is built.

03

Excellence

The final dress rehearsal: timed full simulations on our Admission Platform with the real Bocconi scoring system. Numerical analysis of consistency in results: not just average score but estimated probability of clearing the competitive threshold in the remaining sessions. The double-penalty strategy becomes automatic: answer if you have reasonable certainty, skip otherwise. The tutor calibrates every decision right up to test day.

Our approach

How Up to Ten prepares you for the Bocconi Law Test

The Bocconi Law Test is a reasoning test, not a content test. What you need is to train critical thinking, argument comprehension and decision-making speed — skills that are built through deliberate practice and method.

01

Logic and Critical Thinking

The dominant section (18 questions, 36% of the test). Analysis of arguments, implicit assumptions, logical conclusions, distinguishing 'true / false / not deducible'. You improve only through deliberate practice: working through banks of question types, tutor debriefing on every error, progressively recognising the recurring argumentative patterns. The tutor trains the rapid recognition of argumentative structures — the decisive skill for anyone aiming at the competitive margin.

02

Comprehension and Verbal Reasoning

Dense humanities passages (history, philosophy, social sciences, politics): analytical reading, identifying theses and arguments, inferences. Verbal reasoning: deductions from premises, spotting logical errors, distinguishing implication from correlation, reasoning by elimination. These are skills that prepare you not just for the test, but for the way of reasoning you'll use at university — where you'll read judgments, contracts and legal doctrine every day.

03

Mathematics and numerical reasoning

Just 5 maths questions (10% of the test) and 6 on numerical reasoning: the quantitative component is small. This is exactly why the strategy differs from the other areas — over-investing does not pay. We aim for fast, secure points: arithmetic, percentages, proportions, number series, reading data and tables. Targeted practice on the recurring question types to lock down these areas and free up valuable time for logic, comprehension and verbal reasoning.

04

Simulations and dual-penalty strategy

Full simulations with debriefing, in real conditions: time, pressure, managing anxiety and transitions between sections. The goal is to turn the double-penalty rule from a conscious calculation into instinct.

Ammissione Bocconi International Economics and Finance superata

Test Magistrali Bocconi superato in 3 settimane

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about the Test Bocconi Law

The standard Bocconi Test has 24 maths questions, 11 comprehension, 6 numerical reasoning and 9 critical thinking. The Bocconi Law Test inverts the weighting: only 5 maths questions, but 18 on logic and critical thinking (36% of the test), 11 reading comprehension, 10 verbal reasoning and 6 numerical reasoning. The Law test is designed to measure legal reasoning — argumentation, inference, recognising implicit assumptions — not quantitative skills. If you're aiming at Law or Global Law, it's the test most aligned with the skills of the programme.
Yes, formally the standard Bocconi Test is accepted for Law and Global Law. However, the Law test is designed specifically to assess legal skills and tends to discriminate in a way more aligned with the programme: less advanced maths, more argumentation and critical reasoning. Those with a humanities-argumentative profile often achieve higher competitive scores on the Law test than on the standard one. You decide together with the tutor which of the two plays best to your strengths after the diagnostic simulation.
Up to 4 attempts spread across July-April: Early Session (July-September), Winter Session (January), Spring Session (February-April). When you apply for enrolment you choose which score to submit — Bocconi considers the best one. Typical strategy: we recommend aiming for the summer session (Early), when school eases off and you have more time to prepare. Securing admission over the summer lets you face your final year with the peace of mind of a place already in hand. The Winter and Spring sessions remain extra chances to improve your score.
+1 for each correct answer, 0 for skipped questions, and a double penalty based on the number of options: −0.2 for 4-option questions, −0.33 for 3-option questions. Minimum eligibility threshold: 17/50, below which the score cannot be evaluated. This structure rewards those who know when to abstain: guessing at random costs more than it returns, while eliminating 1 option out of 4 turns the question into a rational decision. Training the decision threshold is one of the central points of our method.
Yes. The test language is completely free and does not bind the language of the programme: you can take the test in English and apply to Law (in Italian), or take the test in Italian and aim for Global Law (in English). The choice of language should be made based on reading speed: those who read faster in English often have an advantage in the Comprehension and Verbal Reasoning sections, where time is the tightest constraint. We test this in the diagnostic simulation.
Altre domande frequenti (6)
The Early Session (July-September, after Year 12) is the ideal time for the first attempt for three reasons: (1) the available places are more numerous and the competition less fierce than in the other sessions; (2) a competitive score before Year 13 frees up the whole year for your final exams; (3) 3 attempts remain available if the score isn't enough. For those who start preparing during Year 12, 3-4 months of structured work are enough to be ready by July.
Yes, Bocconi accepts the LSAT (Law School Admission Test) as an alternative to the Bocconi Law Test. However, the LSAT is significantly longer (~3 hours vs 75 minutes) and more complex in its logical reasoning sections. It only makes sense to consider it if you're also planning applications to law schools in the United States or the United Kingdom (Cambridge, UCL), where the LSAT is required by most programmes. For those aiming only at Bocconi, the Bocconi Law Test remains the most efficient route.
Every attempt counts toward your 4 total, whatever the score — a result below 17/50 still uses up an attempt. Below that threshold, though, the score is not valid and cannot be submitted for admission. This is why every attempt should be taken fully prepared: 17/50 is just the technical eligibility minimum — anyone aiming at Law or Global Law should look at the real admission thresholds, which are significantly higher. Our programme is built to get you to the test well above that level.
Yes. Up to Connect is our proprietary platform that tracks every lesson, every simulation and every assessment: scores by area (logic, critical thinking, comprehension, verbal reasoning), trends over time, a readiness score projected to test day, recurring errors and the tutor's recommendations. The dashboard is accessible in real time to the family without any intermediary: the student talks directly with the tutor, but parents and tutor see the same objective data.
One-to-one lessons start from €50/hour with a specialist Bocconi Law test tutor. The price includes: a dedicated tutor from the team, a personalised plan, study materials, access to the Up to Connect platform with full tracking, simulations on our Admission Platform with post-simulation analysis, and WhatsApp support between lessons. Pair packages and small groups available at a reduced cost.
No, absolutely not. The Bocconi Law Test doesn't assess legal knowledge and doesn't presuppose any prior study of law: it measures transferable skills — argumentation, reading comprehension, logical reasoning, verbal reasoning — that any high school student can develop with structured preparation. They're the same skills you'll need at university to read judgments, contracts and legal doctrine, but the test measures them in their general form. Studying law before the test is pointless; training how you reason, on the other hand, is decisive.
